I have heard that Joy and Happiness are quite different:
~Happiness is temporary...Joy is permanent
~Happiness is an outward expression...Joy resides deep inside
~Happiness will flee in persecution...Joy increases, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." -Matt 5:10, ESV
~Happiness is at it's strongest when accompanied by Joy.
You see, this makes sense when you understand that Joy comes from the Lord.
"The Lord is my strength and shield.I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.I burst out in songs of thanksgiving." -Psalms 28:7, NLT
I attended a Men's Encounter this last weekend. During that memorable encounter, God gave me a joy that I never knew I could have. The Holy Spirit dwelt within me and I felt as if I were casting light at whoever I was facing. I still fill this way today when I speak of any part of His word. I learned that when I am filled with Joy, I am filled with laughter and a smile that cannot be tamed. I'm smiling right now as I finish typing this line, for I still do not comprehend the depth of the love that my heavenly Dad has for me.
Dear brothers and sisters: May God fill you with Joy. Give all the glory and praise forever and ever. Amen.
